I recommend watching this first episode then watching the original's first 2 episodes to see how much better the original is. The writing is so damn good in the original.
apparently i’m the minority, but i actually thought this was an amazing show. there are flaws yes, but it is nowhere near what i thought it would be. i was expecting a total dumpster fire.
instead, i was balling my eyes out in almost every episode because how much nostalgia i had. despite some of the casting choices and pacing, this adaptation did a good enough job to make me feel like i was a kid again. the last airbender movie did not give me that feeling. i remember being about 11 and leaving the movie theatre with my grandpa and telling him how horrible the movie was and i didn’t like it. i was 11 and knew that movie was terrible. i’m 24 now and i feel like my opinion on the show is just as objective. nothing can compare to the original animation, but this show had me stay up for 8 hours straight binge watching and crying like a lil girl. i am excited for season 2 and i hope that whatever flaws i found in this adaptation are overcome then.
i’m a pretty harsh critic and picky person when it comes to entertainment… but whatever critiques i have of this show are simply overshadowed by that perfect nostalgic feeling it was able to give me
also, i was under the impression the erased all of the sexism from the show but i was surprised and happy they didn’t. Sokka is def toned down but I think it has more to do with filler episodes not being present and them having time to include the random weird sexist comments he would make to develop that aspect of him. Given the 8 episode and lack of filler, I think they still did a good job showing his childish masculine view. I’m also glad they included the sexism in the northern water tribe, i thought that would have been erased as well.
All of the negative things I thought would be present in the adaptation based on articles that came out simply weren’t actually there.
I might be the only one in this comment section who genuinely enjoyed watching this like yeah there are some things that are just weird but its a pretty damn good show for a live action ?
I’m interested in how it’ll turn out. Not a fan of the first few episodes. Thought it was weird kyoshi fought in place of aang and that Zhao was in kyoshi. Also I love his actor but god damn does this Zhao seem like a little bitch. This whole Zuko notebook thing is odd to me, is that how he will track him? Also soma calling her “big scary lady” instead of figuring out how dope she is during the trial is interesting. And the whole scroll debate everyone’s having about whether she should have stolen it from pirates, my take is it’s one of the few times she breaks rules for the greater good, and it’s also where aang got the whistle which I guess he just already has? Idk maybe he loses it. But I’m pretty sure the pirate episode is also the Jeong Jeong fire bending episode and when she realizes she’s a healer. Lot of set up and strings missing or changed. And I hate people saying everyone needs to chill and like it for what it is, this is the only time anyones saying that. Te internet tails live action remakes but this? Apparently I’m supposed to love it because some random commenter binged the cartoon to have an opinion. To me it’s weird to have hour long episodes and still feel like nothing happened. Book 1 is amazing, so much happens and there’s so much growth. And a few episodes in and we haven’t even really heard aang laugh. Didn’t see the statue room at the air Temple. Like it’s not shot for shot obviously but it’s also not following the story beats. It made new story beats and tries to fit the cartoon progression between them. I’m going to finish it but I don’t see a future where I’d watch it again. The original is one the greatest shows ever made in my opinion so no matter what this wouldn’t have been better. The bending effects are cool but the shot choreography is hard to follow a a lot and it seems like they cover the people too much sometimes with particles. Sokka actually made me laugh but again I wish we saw him stand up to the fire nation boat and charge it and Zuko with ease take him down and his boomerang come back to his Zuko. Eh it’s whatever. In a way I kind of like The movie more because it’s so ass and this is just boring
You’ll just focusing on the bad part why didn’t you show the good ones too , as a live action production it’s pretty hard to show a lot of cartoonish visuals n I’m pretty sure if you was a director you would want to add some of your vision to the show and twist some stuff so that you guys don’t say he didn’t put much thought into the live action he just copied directly from the cartoon. It’s not as perfect as the cartoon but comparing with the other fantasy series we getting these days this was epic and well directed for someone new he/she can fully understand and fall in love with the show and your point of saying why doing the live action is because pple wanna see they best cartoon shows come to life just like watching your own dream without forgetting it …
Aang being casted younger is a great choice, the kid is giving a really good performance too with a lot of wordliness despite sounding so young. Sadly that’s really all there is to say it’s so color by numbers, you’d hope they’d use live action to their advantage. I think the more spiritual aspects of the show would play a lot better in the grounded atmosphere, they had a chance to make the adaptation to live action justified and a benefit but it’s easier to just copy and paste ig
wait WHAT..I’ve seen the ads for this and thought they just got the rights to the trash live action movie?? why would they see how bad that flopped and then try again
I also had very low expectations going into it but still tried to be as open minded as possible. So far I‘ve watched the first 4 episodes and I gotta be honest, while the first 3 episodes still had things I liked even though there also were things I did not like and/ or missed they really dropped the ball at episode 4 ? .. it’s an absolute disaster what they‘ve done with Bumi‘s character and the relationship between him and Aang. And they randomly included a certain episode from book 2 just for the sake of having it because the creators likely were aware it has a very popular meme/ pop cultural moment in it. I‘m actually quite pissed now.
Bro the ppl who did live action one piece did amazing like im someone who refuses to watch the anime bc of how long it is and how much filler but bc the live action got the to the point and had rlly good characters and acting for it etc was just spot on. I gave up on this live action after the creators who made the cartoon stepped away that’s jsut when i knew lmfao
I loved it ??? i understand they have to pack alot into 8 episodes, n graphics kinda mediocre ? but it hit the main points and if u pay close attention u get the lil Disney life lessons. I enjoyed it even though i already know the story, but it was refreshing and nostalgic, since i haven't watched since i was a kid
Idk why they changed Aang running away from home to “going up to clear his head” coincidentally at the time the fire nation attacks. Him running away is a big part of his character growth/development throughout the show. Same with them taking away sokka being sexist. Some of the casting choices and acting is questionable to me. Like sokka’s actor lying about being native to get the part. Katara’s acting fell flat most of the show. Surprisingly even when she was telling Aang about the fire nation attack on the village/her mother. Seemed more like she was reading off a script rather than ACTING. Also, her saving the gang from Zuko’s fire attack?? He’s a skilled fire bender and she never was able to waterbend correctly before? But you’re telling me, she was able to conjure up a move like that? They took the kid out of Aang. There’s no way a little boy stuck in ice for 100+ years would be able to pull himself out of the avatar state and also come to the epiphany that he needs to master the elements to save the world. Aang only realized the weight of that when Roku told him he needed to do it by summers end otherwise there won’t be a world to save. The story pacing is also really quick and I dislike how serious Iroh is in this ? it is def a step up from M night Shitupon’s live action but it could def improve in a lot of areas
It wasn't supposed to be an exact replica of the animated series. Its a whole new view on it which tge6 have said. Too bad that you didn't know that coming into it. Honestly the first episode alone was enough to tell me that it was gonna be different thing too. And once i separated the animation from the series, its good. Not A level acting or story but good. People are acting like its the worse thing ever
It's great, a quality remake. Minus some acting but the actors will grow and get better with time. I think the preconceived notion it would be bad because it's a live action has people wanting to dislike it. I would be upset at myself if i didn't give it a go as i'm enjoying it a lot.
tbh as different as it is I kinda liked it. if you watch the whole thing through they actually do follow the original timeline of season 1, they just skip some minor filler scenes over and get more straight to the point. For the most part the storyline is pretty much the same just with some changes to how certain scenes went, they still go to kyoshi island but there isn't any koi fish riding and suki has a whole mom. They also definitely do still go to the Northern water temple and the moon still dies and so does yue and I think they animated that whole fight scene pretty awesome imo
why do people expect an adaptation to be just how it was in the cartoon, i honestly think netflix did great with keeping the essential storyline intact, its adaptation for gods sake OF COURSE something’s are going to be altered that’s normal?????
I would honestly rather them release animated season of the new earth ending avatar than something we’ve seen before or something on like the cool history and stories of prev avatars
I don’t mind sokka’s differences honestly. We have to remember the original show was for children vs this show was meant to be a grittier reimagining. Sokka in both shows is 15/16 when it starts. Idk about yall, but what I know about teenage boys is most of the time you couldn’t pay them to hang out with a 12 year old kid, let alone have them participate in the same shenanigans and find them fun. Don’t get me wrong, they still butchered the characterizations of almost every character, but there are some changes here and there that not only make sense, but can add at least something good to the new version of the characters.
I have mixed feelings. Some of the performances are stiff and just feel off, but it is cool to see the bending look pretty decent in live action. That budget is insane tho lol
i like it, people complaining about changes need to chill. it was never going to be as good as the animation so i don’t know why y’all set unrealistic expectations but the show is good actually, idk why people are upset about small changes like sorry the show isn’t going to be how it was when you watched it as a kid get over it fr. alterations is normal when going from comics to animation to live action
I recommend watching this first episode then watching the original's first 2 episodes to see how much better the original is. The writing is so damn good in the original.
I actually really like it. I like the visuals and I like the actors. I'm really glad I can enjoy it with an open mind. ?
At least Appa looks sick tho! Nowhere as cute as the OG (obvs) but def way better than the Shyamalan
We’re remaking the show for money unfortunately ? imma just rewatch the original instead tho
Zaheer punching the air right now seeing all these people straight up flying after what he endured to get it
I heavily hate what they did to all the character arcs, every character is so flat now
apparently i’m the minority, but i actually thought this was an amazing show. there are flaws yes, but it is nowhere near what i thought it would be. i was expecting a total dumpster fire.

sokka looks like a Whoville character.

11:23 "I DONT NEED ANY CALMING TEA"
i'm so scared to watch this

Gotta be honest, the guy they cast as Sokka looks litterally exactly like the guy who plays him in the Ember Island play from the original show lmfao
But hey, at least an animated direct sequel of the original series has been confirmed! THANK GOD. The terrible live actions need to end.
wait WHAT..I’ve seen the ads for this and thought they just got the rights to the trash live action movie?? why would they see how bad that flopped and then try again
IM CRYNF WHAT DID THEY DO TO THEM IM GONNA KILL MYSELF. ZUKO, KATARA, SOKKA, AAMG, IROH, EVERYONE ELSE, IM CRYING.
the fact that Zuko has his other eyebrow pisses me off
The only anime to live action that is actually great is The Untamed ❤️
that was poopy
I also had very low expectations going into it but still tried to be as open minded as possible. Bruh you’re all hating too hard. The show is good lmao. Only issue I got is Zuko and he’s warming up to me
I don’t know, I binged all the episodes and I’m really happy. To each their own
We keep telling them to stop doing live action versions of our favorites but they never listen
The firebenders could get up to the temple because of the comet. otherwise they wouldn't be strong enough to do that jetpack shit
I loved it ??? i understand they have to pack alot into 8 episodes, n graphics kinda mediocre ? but it hit the main points and if u pay close attention u get the lil Disney life lessons. Found it great tbh, makes no sense going in with that headspace if u want enjoyment out of it tbh

I thought it was like mid, I think it currently goes this, korra, then avatar obviously. But if it gets a younger gen into avatar then idm
Thank you! Finally a real take
Couldnt get through it, it was just meh
yall should react to the one piece live action!!
Thanks to you guys I don't have to watch this show to know it's terrible. Earned my sub ?
bro literally i watched the first ep earlier today and literally like i had some of the same exact responses as u guys bruh
That’s legit all it did was confirm for me it never needed to exist
that opening statement showing appreciation to 2D animation that it deserves is S tier commentary.

wont be the only time godzilla shows up lol

outdoor scenes filmed in a backyard, indoor scenes in an apartment.
