it a song written after the Falkland war in Argentina
It about the Falkland War in 80’s with British and Argentinian
'There's so many different worlds,
So many different suns,
And we have just one world,
But we live in different ones.' is so powerful… and sadly so true these days.
This is to be played at my final day on earth…I want everybody attending to cry!
Thanks for your reaction
For many people the frontman (Mark Knopfer) is one of the best guitarists in rock history.
You should watch Dire Straits – Walk of Life (Live at the On Every Street Tour). It's such a banger and good mood song.
The video technique is called rotoscoping, where they hand draw over film. It was developed in the 1880s. That's not a typo, 1880s. It is very labor intensive, making it expensive, but the end result is worth it. Another famous video that uses it is Take On Me by Ah-ha. Much more up beat, I would suggest you give that one a listen, the official video to get the effect.
Thank you for a great review Steph though I must say I checked your Channel and you seem to be awash with a KPop group called Forstella when I was expecting a much wider variety of artists reviewed, have a great weekend, take care and stay safe and well.
Now I would like to recommend that you and any of your other
Viewers watch Home Free's acappella version of this song. It and they are quite something.
From Dire Straits "Sultan's of Swing" Alchemy Live version so it's not over too soon.
You will love the storyteller (with text, voice but especially with instruments) Mark Knopfler Dire Straits. The song is inspired by the Argentina UK War.
Héllo de France Bonsoir regarder le live de 1993 c'est super ??
Dire Straits weren't American either. It was released in 1985. The video clip won Grammy for best video in 1987.
Mark Knopfler's Brothers In Arms Gibson Les Paul just sold for at auction £592,000 a couple days ago
Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler's solo work is phenomenal. Check out "Brother in Arms" live at Wembley Stadium 1988 Nelson Mandela concert.
Going Home (Mark's theme from the movie Local Hero), Sultans of Swing (Alchemy live), Tunnel of Love, Romeo & Juliet, Down to the Waterline, Lady Writer, Skate Away, Telegraph Road, Love Over Gold, Walk of Life
Dire Straits create very different moods with their music. Try "Sultans of Swing" or "Telegraph Road" for a very different vibe and more superb guitar work
I never get bored watching you!
Hi there. I just discovered your channel. Great reaction. My favorite performance of all time is this song Brothers In Arms live from DIRE STRAITS Live "On The Night" 1993. His Pensa guitar is even more prominent and even more emotional. And the extended instrumental at the end is just jawdropping. Also recommend Private Investigations from the same concert. It's so haunting. Anyway all the best. Cheers from Australia ????
This was a British band singing about British soldiers.
React to "5 minutes of Billie Eilish feat Luana" (Luana is Lucas's sister)
having served in the U.K miltary this song brings special meaning to me.
Como é brasileira, vou falar em português. Dire Straits é sempre melhor ouvir ao vivo. Vejo que há algumas sugestões de musicas interessantes nos comentários mesmo assim vou deixar as minhas: Sultans of Swing e Telegraph Roadm ouça do Show Alchemy (se bem que todo show é fenomenal). Tunel of Love, ouça a versão Wembley 1985. Brothers in Armsma versão do On the night 1992 é soberba. So Far Away uma das melhores versões é a calipso gravada na Austrália em 1985. A carreira solo de Mark Knofler vale a pena conferir também.
Mark knophler tem um talento raro, de tocar guitarra sem nada nas mãos. Puro talento
Hello from Switzerland, Dire Straits have a lot of good, some very good songs, but Brothers in Arms is definitely a completely different, atypical song and a masterpiece (not least because of the guitar, which was used here in the most excellent way). In general, I am of the opinion that you should watch/hear recordings of live concerts, but I have two exceptions in mind, one of which is the song with the video. It just fits, the somewhat simple style in black and white and the animated drawings (to call it that), I don't know how the theme, the mood could be conveyed better (visually).
Apart from David Gilmour (Pink Floyd), Mark Knopfler is the only guitarist I know who can use his instrument so emotionally, although the way they do it is quite different (which isn't a bad thing).
War is always something terrible, a "humane" war, I don't know how it works, when and where such a war would have ever taken place. This is primarily about the soldiers, and rightly so, because they are the ones who bear the burden of the incident and, above all, the consequences.
We in our country can be happy that, despite WW1 and WW2, since our declared neutrality, we have not had a war in our country for around 200 years. Not everyone has this blessing…
Great reaction. ?
Listen to Sultans of Swing – Alchemy Live Concert version. One of the best LIVE performances you will see
Congrats on discovering one of the best bands of all time. For your next reaction with Dire Straits, check out their Alchemy live performance of "SULTANS OF SWING". Prepare to be blown away.
Mark knopfler and David Gilmour are 2 guitarists that prove you don’t need to play fast . Music is about the transference of emotions and nobody’s guitars speak louder than Mark’s or David’s .
Dire Straits was a British band and the song is about war in general but the Falklands war between the UK and Argentina is particular. Dire Straits had a lot of hit records in 70's/80's with "Sultans of Swing" probably the biggest hit song. If you react to Sultans of Swing – be sure to watch the "Alchemy Live" performance – one of the best live performances ever. Mark Knopfler is the singer, song writer and lead guitarist. He is a guitar virtuoso and plays his guitar with incredible tone and emotion.
Yeah, its got nothing to do with Americans. Its a British band and the song has nothing to do with wars involving the USA. The song is about soldiers generally but more specifically, it was written for British soldiers, who incidentally have a much longer war history than the USA will ever have.
Hello there hey ?
?????
What a handsome looking young woman.
Your father must be a proud man indeed.
Great reaction please check the live versions also check out sultans of swing and telegraph road live ❤
Dire Straits are British and this song was inspired by the Falklands Conflict
As said Dire Straits are British. Don't think it's about the Falklands war just about the futility of war 'We're fools to make war on our brothers in arms' .
