Damn, you ladies got me crying. I'd give y'all a big hug if I could. Lol. This film is a masterpiece in cinematography. The way it looked like one continuous shot is incredible. I imagine getting that filmed was a challenge in itself. This an A++ film.
Unfortunately, some WW1 soldiers were put on trial and executed for debilitating shellshock symptoms. Sometimes, soldiers would be executed in the trench, as some of the higher rank feared shellshock to be contagious.
The message on the back of the photo at the end always gets me. “Come back to us” so many never did make it back. Not just the dead. So many came home broken physically and/or mentally they were never the same person again. Over 100 years later and the scars on families and communities are still there. Thank you for sharing your reaction to this amazing film.
This is probably the single greatest film that makes the viewer truly feel like they’re in combat.
The scenes in the bunker literally gave me goosebumps and PTSD anxiety because it immediately transported me back to clearing caves and houses in the Middle East. I caught myself ducking in my seat as they were moving through the bunker.
And the whole thing takes place over the course of a day or so. One day, in a conflict that lasted years. Not sure how those men handled that level of insanity.
If you guys ever get a chance please watch “The Thin Red Line”! Great movie, a mixture of war and spiritual connection with nature and life. An underrated one, released the same year as Saving Private Ryan- And has a power house cast to include, Young Woody Harrelson!
A massive waste of life fought for inbred monarchs and their empires by average people who had no reason to fight each other. None of these boys deserved to die for nothing.
I live in the UK and when you travel around the villages and towns and you see the war memorials, the scope of the war really hits you. In WW1, the men they recruited from villages they tended to keep in the same regiments. As a result, the men served with their friends and family members. This unfortunately meant that when a battalion took heavy losses, it would pretty much wipe out the entire male population of a village.
The trenches were in response to the introduction of repeating rifles and the machine gun to the battle field. Before then soldiers would march in a straight line towards the enemy. The new weapons now meant they could be mowed down in seconds. So the trenches were dug so they could hold their positions. The tank was actually introduced in WWI as a machine designed to cross over the trenches.
All Dr Who fans will recognise the Weeping Angels. By the way, my Grandfather was shot (and crippled for life) in WW1 – but was saved by German medics. It's why I'm here.
I think Blake's death scene is one of the best I've ever seen, it's just so real, the two leads are just phenomenal. Also I think if this were real life, Schofield handled it perhaps the best he could've. He held and comforted his friend, he was truthful, assured Blake that he would get the job done, and let him pass in (relative) peace.
Didn’t like the movie when i saw it for the first time in cinema, like it better now seeing it for the second time. Ps Arianna u have a beautiful face ?❤️
Oh boy, well this is a pleasant surprise. Can’t wait to watch the emotional beating they’re about to take lol.

If the soil was blue clay and you accidentally slid into a bomb crater you were dead. Nobody could help because they would get trapped as well.
????????????
You should watch All Quiet on the Western Front.
Love how the last shot mirrors the first one you see of the protagonist.
Now imagine them watching all quiet on the western front ?
How do I explain me crying at work… I gotta go hide in the bathroom now
hehe
4 of my great uncles died in that war
I've been watching a lot of older films and a lot of shots in this film were inspired by Paths of Glory (1957)
Damn, yall are killing me with this reaction ?
“All quiet on the western front” now please! ?
Recognize Tommen Baratheon? From Game of Thrones.

I'm always in tears whenever folks cry in reactions. Dying???

Now they need to watch the kings man movie
The next two war films you should watch are the eight hundred and the outpost

I think ww1 is often overshadowed by ww2. Ww1 was extremely bloody not to mention the chemical gas used on the battlefield
1 thing is most absolutely crazy part in movie is single shot scene.
If you want to see WW1 movie from German perspective. Look to All Quiet on the western front. Best war movie ever.
it's funny how watching certain movies 'with the right people' can actually make the movies better – both irl as on the internet i guess.

one of my fav theater experiences
Actually kinda broke them, haven't seen them this sad in a while
I need a good psychiatrist to find out why I find humor in chicks crying over a movie.

Why do you guys keep doing this to yourselves ??
