What a cracker loved It ! Leo Woodall having got his big break in White Lotus and now a leading role totaly smashed it, he played all the emotions to a tee.
Havn't seen Ambika Mod before ,but loved how she pulled off that northern sense of humour .
Refreshing to see a new generation of fine actors coming thru.
I think we have all met a similar character to Dex and wanted to save him from himself many times through out the series.Even though I wasn't sure if it was aimed at a younger audience, I soon waited for each hit song to take me down memory lane in a time that I grew up in and loved every minute of this emotional rollercoaster, buckle up, get the popcorn out and don't forget the tissues! you won't be leaving the sofa for awhile, a definite must see.
I recently watched the Netflix series which was both captivating and heart-breaking. The actors did an excellent job of conveying raw emotions throughout the film. The plot itself was very emotional and brought tears to my eyes. Normally, I only cry at movies when I am drinking wine, but I was sober when I watched this one and found myself sobbing myself to sleep, wondering how you can feel such emotion for a TV program. This film evokes feelings you never thought a movie could make you feel. I deeply cared for the two main characters and desperately wanted them to have a happy ending. Just when it seemed they had finally found it, it was taken away from them. I was disappointed when the movie ended because I thought it was brilliant and had an amazing cast. Time flies when you're watching it, and no moment is ever boring as you go along on the journey with Emma and Dexter through the decades of time. It's an emotional rollercoaster, but it reflects life in terms of class, life, status, dreams, and reality. It touches upon so much in society, but love seemed to always win in the end. I can't speak for anyone else, but I almost sensed the ending from the start. At least both characters got to experience the highs and lows of a relationship together at some point in their lifetimes. It's a modern romance masterpiece. The best tip is to have the tissues ready in abundance!
I remember watching the movie one day back in 2013 when I was in my junior year and I was glued to the story and the character. For many many years One Day movie used to be my absolute favourite. I really didn't expect there could be another remake either movie or series which could somehow jolt the same emotions.
I knew how the ending was going to be and thought to my self eh let's see how the first episode is but to my surprise here I'm writing a movie review for the first time and feeling overwhelmed again with Emma's and Dexter love story.
The series not only entails the beautiful bond but also unravels the reality of life after college. How things don't end up the way we want then to, how friendship changes as we grow up, how our younger selves are filled with dreams and aspirations but we usually don't end up achieving everything we plan to. Absolutely amazing work!! Loved the series and the acting especially the actress who played Emma.
A brilliantly delivered RomCom with great acting conveying a range of emotions between friends who were always so much more than friends Emma and Dexter!
For a change i can applaud casting! These two actors brought real emotions, accents, highs and lows and I have nothing bad to say about this dramatic series.
The music is great , it enforces each decade, 80s 90s etc.
A real joy to watch even evoking feelings within me enough to make me shout at the screen at scenes where I was annoyed by either main character to get with it and make a move. Lol
The Rom-Com promo tag caught me, along with the half-hour length. Locked in from the first episode, I felt great chemistry between Dex and Em, but would not have held on for Dex as he went through his growing pains. He was gorgeous and much deeper than he appeared, with a definite touch of narcissism. While hooked by him from the start, Em chose some strange characters to help her develop her sexual skills. Having no history with the book or movie, One Day series seemed well cast and written, but where was the Com half. British wit and humor is much drier than American, but always danced on a very sharp edge. I was also glad to see Eleanor Tomlinson in a meaty role. Poldark made her a favorite. One Day takes you on an emotional rollercoaster with some gorgeous landscapes to ease the ride.
This was rollercoaster of different emotions, The writers did a brilliant job on being so inclusive when they were putting it together. I think everyone who’s been through high school, college and now a young adult has once felt like an Emma to Dexter or a Dexter to Emma, Tilly somewhere or even like the Ian. As much as it’s London based I didn’t feel any sort of being left out as a South African, and maybe it’s true we’re just existing in different time zones but as humans there is some sort of connection that makes us one. Both Lead actors did justice to telling the story of Emma and Dexter.. The directors and producers absolutely brought every chapter to life and excelled, the cinematography nothing short of brilliance.. I’m so happy I watched. And I hope Dexter and Jasminnes story has a happy ending. RIP Justin Eely.
'One day' was one of my favourite books ever. I couldn't wait for the movie to come out. Unfortunately the movie version was underwhelming and Anne Hathaway was definitely not an Emma Morley in any way. But his TV series was spot on! Perfect casting all round. Leo Woodall and Ambika Mod were absolutely amazing, especially Leo. The perfect Dexter Mayhew. Brilliantly filmed and really tugged at the heart strings. Exerted the same emotions you get from the book (which doesn't often happen). Best series I've seen in a long while. Not many shows available as brilliant as this. Wonderfully addictive!!
Excellent remake. Slower, longer scenes – it allowed the plot marinate and thicken in our eyes for the audience. The score is wonderful placed all over the movie in a way that it is intentional and balanced.
An emotional movie characterized by witty British dialogues all over, redefining what it means for a movie to be thrilling, funny, emotional and sad – all at once. It's a buffet of emotions and you find yourself sometimes making decisions as the protagonist.
As a supporter of the first movie with Anne Hathaway, I'm happy this was done. Movies adopted from books may need to be longer so the audience does not loose the plot. Dex and Em have incredible performances by the actors – one scene when Dex is unable to speak in Paris out of emotions, you can feel the pain and sadness in his voice.
It is a beautiful portrayal, well delivered, well-paced. Warning – this is not a romcom.
Hadn't seen the film, vaguely recalled the book but, again, hadn't read it, so came to the series fresh and hadn't even seen the reviews. However, having seen some of the cast previously in other series/films, thought I'd see what the series was like. Having watched all the episodes back to back over two nights, I can honestly say I couldn't fault it.
The premise is simple, the writing was perfect and the acting was exceptional, as was the directing. I'm not going to giveaway any details of the plot, after all, there's a book and a film out there already, so why would I need to? But when you read all the glowing reviews from critics, for once you can believe them.
Certainly the stand-out series so far this year, and I've watched quite a few and enjoyed a many of them, It could well reach year's end and I'd not be shocked if nothing had surpassed it. Perfect.
Wow where do I start? I watched all 14 episodes in 1 weekend and I must say it left my heart filled with love, gratitude, hope and joy. A story of love between 2 people told so beautifully it was a real treat to watch. There are a lot of life twists and turns which, unlike many recent films and dramas, are a true reflection on real life. I laughed and I cried. All the characters are very likable and relatable. The last episode tore my heart into pieces.
And there is also the soundtrack, which was carefully selected and oh my how did I not know Vanbur ever existed?
Thank you Netflix for letting me experience all them amazing emotions!
Wow.. What a series.. I just happened to keep it in my watch list and decided to watch it after dinner.. I found it so relatable.. Their emotions.. I binge watched it through the night.. Thank God.. The next day was a holiday.. I absolutely loved it.. Em and Dexter.. Those names are going to be on my lips. I found Ambika really good.. Blunt and funny.. Dex.. Was way too gorgeous.. I loved him.. Fantastic actor.. The emotions and nuances.. I watched it a second time.. Hanging on to each emotion.. Each dialogue.. Their chemistry.. But i wish Em and Dex had more time with each other.. Heartbreaking and heart crushing.. Especially in the scene where she is lying on her back.. Looking up at him.. His tears dropping down his face.. I cried… Well done to the creators for giving us such a beautiful series which truly captured our hearts.. Love you Em and Dex..
This show deserves a five star rating because it is brilliantly written and acted. However I had to remove a star because the advert for the show did not accurately represent the vibe. I was looking for a happy rom com, and I really needed one too because I was not having a good time mentally. The advert made this show look like a happy rom com. I'm not going to give anything specific away about events which occur in the show, but all I will say is that if you're looking for something to cheer yourself up, absolutely do not watch this show. If you want to have a cry or learn harsh truths about the world, or just see a very beautiful show, then go for it.

I cry in the end . Dexter is gay
