The show did have its moments. But overall I wasn’t super jazzed about it. It felt rushed; Expected that. Exposition extravaganza; Hated that. Costumes and overall world building were nice. In short I probably won’t rewatch it anytime soon.
For me, the show was just alright, some of the actors and actresses did their part but the writing really put a sour taste in my mouth, some of the dialogue are clunky, some felt bland and some are just… I really adored the actors playing Sokka, Iroh and Zuko, I think they did a fantastic job. Also, I hate some of the changes because it made the sequence of events felt like it came out of nowhere, the most prominent one is the change where Aang went to take his mind of instead of running away, thus when Kiyoshi, Bumi were mad at him, it came out wrong. They can't be mad at him, their reasoning are unjustified, he didn't leave them…
I'm halfway through and I'm enjoying it so far. It's not perfect and it's not as great as the original, but I'm enjoying it and would be willing to watch a season 2. I will say, I am worried about the animated movie, but that's because I lost a lot of trust in the creators after Korra…
I seem to be in the minority but I LOVED the show. I've watched all 8 episodes. I think it gets better as it goes on. Some people who haven't seen the whole thing are making some assumptions about the whole season that are unwarranted.
Sokka's actor was the best. If anything, they restrained him and put limitations on the actor. Iroh is a perfect match and i was really impressed by Suki's actress conveying emotion. Everybody else needs acting classes. Aang Katara and Zuko have potential but need a lot more acting training. Azula's actress is a lost cause. She needs to be recast before Season 2. She clearly knows nothing about the character and is simply reciting the script with none of Azula's cold self-assured dehumanizing heartlessness that comes from knowing she is royalty. Azula is a 4D character, and this actress is so wooden. I could even see the Mai actress trying to keep herself blank & emotionless because she knew what Mai is about, although its a little tough for her but she is trying. Azula's actress just seems lost in the shuffle.
Girl playing Azula looks like she could play Tylee, way too cute, Daniel DK looked the part but Ozai should been shrouded in more mystery as he was in the series, all the characters were pretty bland, it's like they copied some of the art direction and stand out character traits like 'Sokka funny', 'Aang fly', 'Iroh tea', 'Azula lighting'. I'm truly convinced AI gets used a lot these days.
I think all the hate that the Avatar live action show is receiving is exaggerated and undeserved. People can’t expect a live action show to be as good as the original cartoon, it almost never is as we have seen with previous adaptations of other animated series. I came to see this show with low expectations for this reason and we are really enjoying it. I agree that some of the changes don’t work with the rest of the story and some of the characters are miscast, but you have to think that it can be difficult to find actors that are the right age and ethnicity and that are actually good at acting. It must be very challenging in Hollywood. So for these reasons I cutting it some slack.
I think the goofiness of the original can be translated but we need someone that understands body language comedy. This makes me think of the Neds declassify show they had down with body comedy. I think learning that line for a show like Avatar but that might never happen lol ?
It is drawe your own chracter with flaws pick the perfect voice actor, but when working with a live person you may have to compensate. If azula actress is round/soft she has push her chracter acting but they new acting kids so…
In 15 minutes i couldnt do it, the first thing that stuck out was fight choreography is wasnt impactful, then it was elemental physics it off aang had a kite staff to travel is he could anywhere whats the point, and then liner path in story pacing loses emotional impact we got a whole hour i wasnt suffer like this again. I had to switch to animation.
Hey Brittney, sorry I didn't stay for the live stream but I hope you will review it in full when all episodes are out again and Netflix has released in full the Nimona film on YouTube.
It was mid at best. Not great not terrible just kind of bland. It went through the motions, but it felt like it lacked a soul. Opening with Sozin's comet was bad because if they know of the comet and the fact it comes every 100 years it defeats that sense of urgency that happens in season 3. I also need Roku to be a bigger deal. This is as much his story as it is Aang's. As the previous avatar and fire nation at that he blames himself for being soft on Sozin and preventing the war before it even started. I also didn't like how the hippies and the tunnels were used. The tale of Oma and Shu was about actual lovers not sibling love. The tension between Aang and Katara is something that just builds up throughout the series. That said there are things to like. I was actually quite happy with Bumi, Iroh, and Zuko. I don't mind other things being streamlines like Teo being in Omashu as opposed to the Air Temple. Also going to be that guy One Piece did it better. Now will season 2 of One Piece continue that trend remains to be seen.
IM SO EXCITED FOR WICKED, WBU???

They should have went the One Piece route and kept the action cartoony
My fiance and I thought it was good and can't wait for the second season. Compared to other anime live actions, this one did well.
I’m so mad I missed this stream? but I’m also watching avatar only got as far as the first episode
Yue’s wig was a hate crime
Azula was the worst cast out of everyone
Zuko was the best
oh, I forgot you went live today! welcome back, looking forward to watch now

The writing was kind of here and there. Along with the acting. But I loved it.

The wigs were AWFUL, especially Yue’s
