Oh no. Sony's learned the wrong lesson again.
This is why Into The Spider-Verde was so good. The heads of Sony weren’t paying attention to it. Game over!
If they want a live action Spider-Man universe so bad why not do 2099, hire a director that has Cyberpunk sensibilities, cast Diego Boneta as live action Miguel O'Hara, and you can even this 2099 is the future of the Sam Raimi Spider-man movies.
If it’s the superior foes of Spider-Man then that good idea just silly d-list villains robbing hammer head or something
Give me everything Spider-Man spider woman and nick cage spider man
My argument is Tom Holland Spider-man's revenge motive was the sixth member of the Sinister Six.
lol I love how Sal just speeds through the sponsor and just wants to get to the news. While Benny will do his whole speele about the hot sauce. I don’t know if that says Sal knows people don’t like sponsor sections , he doesn’t like sponsor section or he just wants to get to the news.
Just make that Black Cat & Silver Sable movie, and have that animated.
Hassan doesn’t deserve the hate he gets! Poor dude.
I was on board right until Sal said no Spider-man, it's crazy they don't realize that's the problem yet
If only Sony had rights to a successful animated Spider-Man series everyone wants back and they could totally revive if they decided to work with Disney. But I guess that’s just a fantasy.
Bro’s still flabbergasted at The Last Jedi subverting expectations to reinforce the values of the franchise. The third act is pure Star Wars action and character moments and spectacle.
I love spraying hot sauce on food and eating it!
“Spray it on your food and eat it” is such a hilariously great way to advertise a sauce.
Can Sal sound a lil more happy about the hot sauce? it is funding you guys right?
The thing is. Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League (a story I enjoyed) proved…you cannot have an actual supervillain movie.
If the villain has to fight an established beloved superhero then fans will reject it if the hero loses or dies in the end.
So you get these safe films like Joker, or Suicide Squad where they’re basically fighting something worst than themselves.
Which means there’s not really much to explore with the concept of a villain movie as it is today.
I see no real point in doing this project
Actually, there's one villain-centric movie that DID work really well: Joker. But that worked because they had a good director with creative freedom.
Sony is constantly interfering with their directors and rushing to big events, both with ASM2 and these villain films.
The only time they didn’t? The Spider-Verse movies, aka some of their best movies to date.
Of course Sony is doing this. We can’t get an R rated live action Venom movie, but they’ll do an animated one. Even though a large percentage of the audience of animated projects are children, so if they make it rated R they’ll be blocking some of the audience. I don’t know what the hell they’re doing over there.
To be completely frank, an animated sinister 6 movie DOES sound more interesting. If only because the stink of the terrible designs of the live action stuff wont be in it making it instantly more palatable (not so happy to be proven wrong on that though)
Okay but Despicable Me but it's Norman Osborne could be hilarious
Yeah this definitely sounds more like a mandate decision, sony never learns
In early 2000’s Sony’s Defense, did they really have a reason to believe anything else was worth buying? Fox had X-Men, Fantastic Four, Blade and even Ghost Rider, and What came with them, Universal had Hulk, what was there for them to believe it was worth it before the Iron Man movie?
The sole reason Sony is floundering is because they’re trying to make Villains be the stars of their own solo movies, or in the case of Madame Web, make supporting character ‘Spider People’ with as little Spider-ness as possible despite *literally Owning Spider-man*.
I think Sony has an addiction. We need to gather their friends and family, sit them down and read speeches to them to let them know how their actions have an effect on others.
You have to remember that Sony is a Japanese company. And they are NOTORIOUS for not paying attention to or caring how their property/ IPs are made in the U.S./ western countries.
I think you have the wrong perspective here. A madame web movie could have been great. An aunt may movie could be great. A third garbage man from the left in the background of the last spider man movie could be great. But Sony is turning the crank on a formula for bad movies. To make a great movie you have to hire truly visionary people with the capacity to find other great talent and lead a production, and you need to then trust them to bring that to the finish line with as much support as you can offer without screwing with their process.
Until Sony commits to that process, they will continue to only produce good movies when a) nobody is looking (Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse) or b) someone else gets control (Disney/Marvel Spider-Man movies).
?
We could have seen Tom Holland meet The Beyonder.
